Reminder that centre is open, but tearoom is closed for 2 weeks for maintenance

tea room at woodside

Just a reminder that we are closing the tearoom at Woodside Garden Centre, Jedbrgh, for 2 weeks from 27th January while we carry out essential repair works to the kitchen and redecorate.

Teas and Coffees Still available in the Plant Shop

The plant shop will be open as usual during this time and we’ll be offering teas and coffees in there, to keep you warm while you browse. If everything all goes to plan (fingers crossed) the tearoom will be open again on the 10th February with a new kitchen and freshly painted ready for another busy year!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Christmas Trees

Christmas TreesIf this cold weather isn’t enough to get you in the Christmas spirit, we are sure a visit to our best ever Christmas shop will get you well on the way. Take a look at our video below! With gorgeous decorations and gifts there is plenty of choice.

Christmas Trees for sale

The beautiful Nordman cut Christmas trees have arrived at Woodside. Nordmans are the best Christmas tree for keeping their needles and will last well into the New Year as an indoor cut tree. If you prefer something different  – and an extra Christmassy fragrance, we also have some Blue Spruces in stock.

The best results for looking after your Christmas trees is to site them away from radiators and put them in a stand that will hold water. We have used the same supplier of British grown trees now for a number of years, and the trees are as good as ever – with no price increases!

Cut Christmas tree sizes range from about 4ft up to about 10ft, and for the best choice I would recommend that you buy early – even if you’re not ready to put your tree up just yet. (We can hold them here until you are ready).

Living Christmas Trees

We also have a good selection of pot Norway Spruce Christmas trees, sometimes known as “Living Trees”. These have been pot grown on a specialist nursery, rather than being grown in fields, dug up, and stuffed in a pot, so beware of sellers using the term “potted” rather than “pot grown”.

There is a big difference in quality and future survival rates between the two methods of growing, with pot grown trees reliably growing on well to make good plants in the future. Norway Spruces have a poor reputation as cut trees because they drop their needles, but this isn’t a problem when they are a pot grown tree, and I find that they make the best pot grown trees.

Wreaths

Wreath making season has also started, and we are now taking orders as well as having some stock available to buy.

Now that Halloween is past we can really start to look forwards to Christmas. Here's a little taster of what is available at Woodside

Christmas Coming Early for Loyalty Card Holders

Christmas wreaths
Christmas is coming and we are now taking orders for fresh wreaths and real
potted and cut Nordman (non-needle-drop) Christmas trees.

This Friday and Saturday we are offering all loyalty card holders a special Christmas offer. You can get 10% OFF all our Christmas items when you hand over a full loyalty card. This offer is only available on Friday 15th November and Saturday 16th November, and we are open 10am - 4pm daily.

To get you in the mood for Christmas we now have available Amaryllis bulbs, decorations,
lights, indoor wreaths and garlands, a new range of stocking
filler toys, tealight holders and ornaments. There's lots here to appeal
to all the family so do come along and have a look.

A Few Winter Warmers

Blue tits on the feeder at Woodside garden near Jedburgh

Remember from 1st November we start our winter opening times of 10am – 4pm daily. We stay open right through the winter, closing only for Christmas and New Year.

Although the weather is chilly, Woodside is full of winter warmers: with a wood burning stove in the tearoom you can keep warm and watch the feeding birds up close with a slice of Pat’s delicious Spiced Toffee Apple cake(subject to availability) and freshly roasted coffee from Fairtrade supplier Three Hills Coffee of Selkirk.

New to the tea room menu are Club Sandwiches and a range of cold drinks, including alcohol-free lager.

Christmas just around the corner

As Christmas is approaching, we are beginning to take orders for our handmade fresh wreaths suitable for doors or for the cemetery. Christmas decorations and gifts are beginning to sneak into the plant centre shop now, with our main display being ready in early November.

As a small independent shop we can buy the things that we like – we’re not restricted to central buying contracts like many of the bigger shops. This means that you’ll nearly always find something unusual that you won’t see elsewhere, so if you haven’t shopped with us before at Christmas, please do have a look this year – you will be surprised how much we can fit into our little space. Our range includes light up reindeer, climbing squirrels (yes, really) children’s toys and games, novelty signs, battery powered lights, garlands and load more. And of course we stock real Nordmann Christmas Trees from the last week in November.

Loyalty Card Offer

There is just a week to go on our loyalty card holder offer

I know that there are lots of full loyalty cards now in circulation after a busy spring buying plants! Up until 17th June, we are offering 10% OFF all bedding and vegetable plants when you hand in a full loyalty card ( 1 card per transaction).

Let us know at the beginning of the transaction that you will be redeeming a full card, so that we can process your discount.

Wildlife and Wellbeing Garden needs your help

The wildlife and wellbeing garden at woodside

Our registered charity – the Woodside Garden for Wildlife and Wellbeing (WGWW) – would appreciate some help.

Moving stones

Our major project for the year is the building of a drystane seating area in the wildlife garden, suitable for wheelchair users to access. On Thursday 6th June we are having some stone delivered, and we would like some help to shift it! It’s expected to arrive at about 11am, and will probably take around an hour to move. If you’d like to help, please turn up with sturdy shoes and gloves.

Publicity/social media assistant

We are also looking for someone to assist the Board members with publicity. You don’t need to become a member of the Board (although we would be delighted to have new members) and you don’t need to commit to regular times. All you need is an enthusiasm for using social media, such as Facebook, and the willingness to learn how to update the charity’s website. If this interests you, either come in and see me (Emma) or, better still, drop in at one of the Wednesday Weeding Workout sessions to meet other volunteers.

You can see more of charity’s work on the facebook page
